Did you know...

There is no national Presidents' Day holiday.  This day is officially known as Washington's Birthday, observed on the third Monday of February.

Many people attribute the origin of April Fools' Day back to the 1500's when Pope Gregory XIII introduced the new Gregorian Calendar and New Year's Day was moved from April 1 to January 1.  The people who had not heard of the change or who refused to believe it were subject to ridicule, and were often sent on "fools errands" or were made the butt of other practical jokes.

The Memorial Day anthem is called “On This Day.”  During the week leading up to Memorial Day, the The White House Commission on Remembrance urges Americans to perform the anthem.  Composed by Charles Strouse, the award-winning composer of Annie and Bye Bye Birdie, it is an inspiring song that celebrates the lives of America’s fallen. You can listen to this and many other patriotic holiday songs here on our website.

9-11 is officially known as Patriot Day.  Patriot Day was signed into law on December 18, 2001 as a day to remember those who lost their lives in the terrorists attacks on our country.

Benjamin Franklin first proposed the concept of Daylight Saving Time in a humorous letter on the thrift of natural versus artificial lighting.  Over two centuries later, nations around the world use a variation of his concept to conserve energy and more fully enjoy the benefits of daylight.
